UUCSA Statement on the Soweto Bombings |
UNITED ULAMA COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA |
PRESS STATEMENT |
| We condemn in the strongest possible terms the explosions that rocked the tranquility of Soweto. Such dastardly acts lend to civil unrest and retard the spirit of national reconciliation. A spirit that has been a distinctive characteristic of our young democracy and one vigorously espoused by our leaders. To attack civilian targets is indeed despicable. No peace loving human being can ever contemplate to bomb a place of worship (in this case a Muslim one – Mosque) of whatever denomination. |
| We call on the people of our country not to give credence to the ploy of the perpetrators by acting recklessly and apportion blame by way of speculation. Instead all co-operation must be afforded to the law enforcement agencies so that those responsible can be easily apprehended and thus be brought to book. |
| We call on all South Africans, particularly those in leadership and the media to act with restraint and responsibility. |
|
Finally,
we express our deepest sympathy and condolences to all the victims of this
horrendous act of barbarity. |
| May the Almighty bless us with the understanding not to cause harm and injury to fellow human beings. Âmîn. |
