The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) is a Coalition of Major Muslim Theological Formations in South Africa,
which Seeks to Coordinate and Represent Muslims at National Level. UUCSA hereby issues the following:

Condemnation of the USA and her ‘Coalition of the Willing’ Partners

A Press Statement

It seemed that nothing, absolutely nothing, could have stopped the USA from pursuing war on Iraq . The stalemate in the UN Security Council, the millions who have protested and picketed, the ensuing diplomatic furores, the forecast of the amount of pain and suffering on Iraqi civilians, the massive human catastrophe… despite all of these, unilateralism has prevailed.

Today, as the first bombs are falling, the USA stands as the supreme icon of arrogance, oppression and despotism. She has confirmed her alienation from the civil world, antagonised many peace-loving citizens and has set a dangerous trend of intolerance, war and power-mongering.

Peace Initiative

All people of South Africa are called upon to offer prayers of peace and mercy for the innocent of Iraq . They are called upon to condemn all forms of aggression, oppression and injustice and to identify with the plight of the Iraqis.

The majority of people around the world feel the pain and suffering of the Iraqis. Although bombs are falling on Iraq , the effects of the war will be felt worldwide. With the Middle-East now in utter turmoil, the worst fears of many African states have become a reality and the plight of the ordinary people will have become worse. Programmes for the alleviation of world poverty will stop resulting in worldwide suffering. The poor will become poorer and the rich will look for more opportunities to exploit.

America , do not plunge the entire world into an abyss simply because you have not succeeded in securing a result convenient to you in an international community based on binding rules and institutions. Please stop your actions that only create anarchy and chaos, rather than peace and stability.
