In the wake of the attacks against the United States and the almost instant indictment against ‘Muslims Terrorists’, we as Muslims have become 'legitimate' targets of abuse and face unprecedented levels of harassment and victimisation the world over.

In South Africa, Muslims have been subject to attacks on mosques, the Muslim Judicial Council Offices were bombed, the Grey Street Mosque, the largest Mosque in the Southern hemisphere received a bomb-threat in the middle of the Friday prayer. Islamic institutions continue to receive hate mail; death threats, and abusive calls, whilst students at some schools are humiliated. Our crime is no more than to say: “Our Rabb is Allâh.”

As Muslims we neither turn the other cheek, nor mete out ‘American Justice’ in blatant disregard for the Rule of Law. We respond as law-abiding citizens. It is thus important that we rally together to effectively deal with the violation of our human rights.

The Jamiatul Ulama has set-up a desk made of ‘Ulamâ and Lawyers to document all cases of harassment and to help victims seek redress.
