‘Halala’ is not ‘Halaal

 

The Muslim public is hereby informed, that the ‘Halala Savings Plan’ currently advertised by Sanlam is not a halaal investment.

Numerous individuals have queried whether this scheme is Sharî‘ah-Compliant.

Muslims are being misled by the word Halala. This word has no relevance to the Arabic word Halaal, which is used to denote something lawful in Islâm.

In fact the scheme is named after a word originating from the Xhosa language meaning ‘joy and happiness’.

We urge Muslims to be cautious...
