Jamiatul Ulama
Transvaal |
The Jamiatul Ulama Transvaal attempts to the best of its ability to assess the credentials of collectors and projects they are soliciting funds for. The primary object is to establish the authenticity of the collection drive. As much as we try to weed out the conman, like weeds they keep on sprouting. Consequently, we are obliged to bring to your attention their modus operandi as well as other unacceptable practises that plague collections: |
Application forms are used to solicit funds. An application is precisely what it is. Do not be fooled by this trick. Insist that a valid Jamiat Letter of Collection (LOC) be presented. |
Ordinary Jamiat letters on official Jamiat letterhead that has no resemblance to a valid LOC are produced to establish their credentials. The contents may be relevant to collections but in no way authorises collection. |

Therefore, we urge Muslims to be more circumspect when giving donations. Your co-operation and prudent discretion will go a long way in the effort to stamp out these malpractices and unscrupulous conduct. If not, our indifference will only perpetuate this menace to the detriment of our own community. |
Some of us not wanting to “hurt” or “offend” these collectors, give them some small amount. Others give something simply to get the collectors off their backs. This may prove temporarily effective but do remember that your saying “NO” today will save you from regrets tomorrow. We believe that the only effective way of discouraging unauthorised collectors is by saying NO. Remember that you are the only one who can say no. |
