Concern for the Hereafter - The Only Cure for Crime Islamic beliefs are based on three basic principles, tauheed (oneness of Allah Taala), risaalat [prophethood] of Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam and aakhirah [belief in the hereafter]. Amongst them, belief in the aakhirah is the very essence of correcting and rectifying amaal [actions]. It is extremely effective in the prevention of sins and disobedience. After applying careful thought, it will become distinctly clear that without belief in the aakhirah (hereafter) it is practically impossible to establish peace and safety in this world. Today, the world has reached the pinnacle of material progress. No stone is left unturned in employing material means to curb crime and violence in any country, yet it is a reality that crime and violence is on the increase throughout the world. The only reason for this state of affairs is a wrong diagnosis and treatment. The cause of this deterioration is love for material possessions, unnecessary engrossment in materialism and negligence of the aakhirah. The only remedy for the situation is concern for the aakhirah and the remembrance of Allah Taala. Wherever and whenever this prescription was applied, the social life of that nation became truly human to the extent that the angels envied it. Today the world wants to stop crime while being unmindful of Allah Taala and the aakhirah. In fact, at every attempt such means are adopted which take a person further away from Allah Taala and the aakhirah. The result of this is before our eyes - more crime, murder, violence, etc. Alas! If the intelligent apply this Quranic prescription, they will realise how easy it is to control crime.
